Vladimir Putin will appear today for the first time since the so-called referendums in the four occupied Ukrainian regions, declaring that the regions will now join the Russian Federation.

Preparations were made for a grand ceremony in Moscow’s Red Square announcing the incorporation of these regions into Russian territory, with a stage, huge video screens and billboards reading “Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson – Russia”.

The Russian president is also expected to make a speech today after meeting with the Moscow-backed leaders of the four regions.

The Kremlin’s move came despite several warnings from world leaders who said they would never recognize the voting practice and called it illegal and “fake”. UN chief Antonio Guterres said Russia’s decision to pursue annexations had no legal value and “deserved to be convicted”.

Volodymyr Zelensky said that the annexation of 15 percent of Ukraine could still be stopped.

“But to stop this, we must stop that person in Russia who wants war more than life,” he said, referring to Putin.

It’s too soon to say who caused the Nord Stream pipeline rupture – Pentagon

US defense secretary Lloyd Austin said it was too early to predict who might have caused the Nord Stream pipeline rupture.

“In terms of the attack or the damage to the pipeline, I think there is a lot of speculation at this point. “But to be honest, no one will be able to pinpoint what happened until a full investigation is complete.”

He added that the incident was discussed with Denmark.

“Until we have more information or do further analysis, we will not speculate on who might be responsible,” Austin said.

Medical training, first aid for poor Russian soldiers in Ukraine – MoD

The British defense ministry said today that Russian soldiers deployed by Moscow in Ukraine are facing worsening medical supplies and their first aid awareness is likely to be weak.

“The medical supply for the Russian combat troops in Ukraine is probably getting worse. Some newly mobilized Russian reserves have been ordered to procure their own combat first aid supplies, with the advice that women’s sanitary products are a cost-effective solution.”

In its latest intelligence update on the Ukraine war, the ministry said medical education and first aid awareness were likely weak.

“Some Russian troops took their own modern, Western-style combat tourniquets, but placed them on top of their equipment using cable ties instead of the Velcro provided—probably because such equipment was scarce and prone to theft,” he said.

This is “almost certain to hinder or make impossible the timely implementation of tourniquet maintenance in the event of catastrophic bleeding on the battlefield”.

Confronted with insufficient medical supplies, the distrust of Russian troops for assistance “almost certainly contributes to the drop in morale and the unwillingness to conduct offensive operations in many units in Ukraine.”

Volodymyr Zelensky abandoned Russia’s “annexation attempt” and said it would fill the occupied lands with graves.

“Everyone in the world understands very well what such an annexation attempt really means. That won’t mean the Kremlin is hoping for it,” Zelensky said in his nightly speech.

The wartime president added: “Russia will not take a new part of Ukraine. Russia will annex itself to the disaster that our country has brought to the occupied lands.

“Russia will equate itself with the so-called ‘DPR’ and ‘LPR’ and completely destroy the normal state institutions that still remain in Russia.”

Stating that Russia will fill the occupied Ukrainian lands with graves, the Minister said, “There are more and more graves on Russian soil.

“The occupier is setting up torture chambers in the occupied lands and will fill all Russian lands with torture chambers.

“This is the only way Russian police and Russian special services can work now,” he said.

Vladimir Putin is expected to host a ceremony in Moscow’s Red Square today announcing the annexation of four regions of Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin will deliver a speech in the Square and that the annexation of the four regions will be formalized at the ceremony.

The Russian president warned the world against attacking these areas and threatened to use nuclear weapons to defend them.

He will also meet with the leaders of the Russian-backed Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR), as well as the Russian-established leaders of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions occupied by Russian forces.

It is unclear whether Putin will attend the Red Square concert, as Russia held a similar event in 2014 after Ukraine’s annexation of the Crimea region.

Late last night, Vladimir Putin recognized the “independence” of the two occupied Ukrainian regions – Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

Two other regions that will be annexed by Russia today – Donetsk and Luhansk – were recognized by Moscow as “independent” from Ukraine a few weeks ago.
